EVENTS CANCELED DUE TO CORONAVIRUS

This likely isn’t the first you’re hearing about the Coronavirus (a.k.a. Corvid 19). But if it is, then you should know there’s a massive outbreak happening throughout China that has infected tens of thousands and killed thousands. As a result of the virus, numerous esporting events have been either postponed or canceled outright. It’s been difficult for many events to justify the risk of holding a tournament as it could further the spread of the Coronavirus. So here’s a look at what events are delayed or canceled.

Affected events: Currently, it looks like the Overwatch League 2020 Pacific Conference East Division (taking place in Seoul, South Korea; and Shanghai, Chengdu, Hangzhou, and Guangzhou, China) is the most impacted event. It was previously scheduled to occur between February and March 2020, but has since been postponed indefinitely. Additionally, the Dota 2 Hainan Master Spring Invitational (scheduled for March 3-8) has been delayed with no new time decided upon. The latest major event delay has been announced by Riot Games, which means the Mid-season Invitational (MSI) is not scheduled to occur in the near-future. The LPL announced a delay mid-January and won’t begin until May. This may further impact the League of Legends 2020 World Championship (scheduled to occur in China come November), but nothing is certain.

Additional changes: The League of Legends LCK Spring Split has not been delayed, but due to health risks, matches will be played in a blank arena.
