We’re all stuck indoors, but as gamers, it’s our biggest advantage. If you’re looking for something to do that isn’t esports-y, we’ve got a couple of new (re) releases for you to download this week.
Persona 5 Royal
Atlus’ Persona franchise has been a staple of the JRPG community since the first Shin Megami Tensai spinoff in 1996, surpassing 10 million copies sold in summer 2019. Persona 5, released worldwide in 2017, was a smash hit itself, selling over 2 million copies. What better way to celebrate than to release the game again?
Persona 5 Royal is perfect for someone who never got around to engaging the Persona franchise and has a lot of time on their hands during quarantine. It’s also great for someone who is a completionist and wants to get all the versions of the game. According to early reviews of the Japanese release from October 2019, there’s plenty of new content — including new friends to engage and a new Phantom Thief named Kasumi Yoshizawa (aka Violet). Some of the battle mechanisms have been refined as well.
Overall, the game is even longer than the original Persona 5 release, so you know you’re definitely getting more content.
Persona 5 Royal was released worldwide today (March 31st), and comes in the following versions:
Persona 5 Royal Phantom Thieves Edition – $89.99
Persona 5 Royal Launch Edition – $59.99
Persona 5 Royal Ultimate Edition – $99.99
Persona 5 Royal Deluxe Edition – $69.99
Persona 5 Royal DLC Bundles (various prices)
Resident Evil 3 Remake
“This pandemic has spread faster than any disease in modern history.”
What a quote to start a game. The remake of Capcom’s survival classic Resident Evil 3 comes out this Friday, April 3rd and will be welcomed into a future where pandemics are indeed relevant.
We don’t have to do much introduction the Resident Evil franchise, but we can tell you a bit about why you should play the remake of its third installment. In it, trusty protagonist Jill Valentine tries to escape Racoon City but is chased down by the ominous Nemesis (hence the title of the original release, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis). Dialogue is spruced up, character design and rendering is updated, and the overall look is modernized for a well-timed 2020 release. Included in the release is a minigame called RE Resistance, a 4-on-1 coop mode, which should appeal to esports-minded individuals and give the title some more longevity.
