T1 SECURES TIE FOR FIRST PLACE IN KOREA’S LCK

For the last few months, T1 has been making their way up the rankings in Korea’s LCK. As of today, however, they’ve officially beaten the number one team, Gen.G. As a result, they now share joint first place in the league.

Building up a head of steam

T1 had a rough start to the 2020 League of Legends season when two of their players were lost in the offseason. The new lineup’s inexperience led the team to lose against Hanhwa Life and Afreeca Freecs. Since then however, they’ve managed to pick up their game and become an unstoppable force.

In the first game between T1 and Gen.G’s best-of-three matchup, the first game went to the latter team. This came due to an unbelievable late-game Aphelios one-versus-four by Ruler. But by the time the second game picked up, T1 figured out their stuff. They went on to win the match 2-1 through both unconventional composition and sheer domination of the field. The team was by no means averse toward experimenting to gain more experience as a team. And they didn’t disappoint.

Teamwork for the win

Teddy’s Kalista and Effort’s Taric took control of Gen.G’s bot lane, while Faker and Cuzz kept Bdd distracted in the mid-lane. T1 went on to take down the Baron, and Gen.G could not keep up. Minutes later, T1 stampeded the Nexus for the win. Throughout the matchup, T1 remained methodical and conservative in its laning phase. Gradually they ramped up and banked everything on teamfights to end the game.

During the third game, Canna really stepped up and carried the top lane. Faker did his part with Akali while Teddy danced around Gen.G. The game took fewer than 30 minutes to determine a victor.

As a result, T1 now secured a first-place tie ranking with Gen.G. T1 next faces off against the bottom-of-the-bag team Griffin on Friday, April 3.
