The second half of March saw a marked increase in gaming conversation compared to the first half of the month. The difference between these two periods amounted to a 71% jump. In addition, there has been an 89% increase in conversation and a 50% increase in unique authors in the United States.

Nothing to do

Due to the Coronavirus keeping many at home, gaming and esports witnessed an increase in viewership and engagement numbers. Due to the absence of traditional sports, many are turning to ESPN, Disney XD, and FOX Sports as an alternative viewing method for regular events now canceled.

According to Twitter, Fortnite has become the #5 most-globally-tweeted game on the social media platform. Meanwhile in the US, Fortnite ranks #4, as measured over the last 30 days. In comparison, Overwatch is ranked at #9 due to the Overwatch League matches resuming on March 21.

Most-tweeted esports organizations

With regard to esports organizations, FaZe Clan comes in as the #1 most-tweeted-about organization on the platform. The others that make up the top five include G2, Made in Brazil, Fnatic, and Cloud9. As for the most-tweeted-about esports teams over the last 30 days, they are:

  1. FaZe Clan
  2. G2 Esports
  3. MiBR
  4. Fnatic
  5. Cloud9
  6. T1 Entertainment & Sports
  7. Team Liquid
  8. Luminosity Gaming
  9. paiN Gaming
  10. Team SoloMid

Everyone has plenty of downtime for watching things like esports. In the absence of everything else, it’s no wonder that folks are talking more about the industry.
