We finally have an answer to the question about the full release date for Riot Game’s new tactical shooter, Valorant. Yesterday, the developers announced that the game will officially emerge in its full form on June 2nd.
Valorant has been in beta since April. It is already one of Twitch’s most popular streamed titles, breaking 1.7 million viewers on April 7th. Closed beta will end on May 28th to give the dev team at Riot a few days to prepare for open launch a few days later.
Riot plans to make their relationship to Valorant and its community last over “years, or even decades,” according to the the game’s executive producer Anna Donlon. She said that fans can expect that “This is just the beginning of our journey together.”
The game is free to play, but like League of Legends, Riot is hedging their revenue bets on microtransactions. Given the amount of enthusiasm surrounding the game so far, it’s likely that their wager will pay off in dividends
