HOW CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE WARZONE COMPARES TO OTHER BATTLE ROYALES

The latest in free-to-play (F2P) battle royales (BR) titles has hit the market, namely Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Warzone. With this game, Activision is hoping to compete with the other major games that dominate this sector of the video game sphere, namely Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Counter-Strike Danger Zone. How do you think the game stacks up against these titles? Well, it’s a little early to say. But here are some preliminary thoughts.

Thoughts from folks that’ve played it: When Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 released its Blackout mode, folks expected the boundaries of BRs to have been pushed. But it wasn’t quite what people wanted. Warzone, instead, has become everything folks wanted Blackout to be. They fixed everything wrong with Blackout and produced a game that has the potential to hold attention for years. Warzone adopts a number of features from Apex Legends, such as the ability to respawn eliminated teammates, recharging armor, acquiring special abilities, and so on.

Additional things implemented: Activision didn’t just copy features from other successful games. They’ve also implemented some ideas of their own throughout the game. Instead of different heroes with abilities tied to them (as with Apex), Warzone introduced Buy Stations, where players can purchase myriad abilities or redeploy teammates. These locations require players to loot and complete contracts for extra cash to then purchase goodies. The game also has some depth that allows you to play it through a variety of methods, whether it be all-out battle or stealth and strategy.

If you’ve played the game already, what are your thoughts regarding this new title?
