E3 2020 CANCELED DUE TO CORONAVIRUS CONCERNS

Reports throughout the industry have indicated now that the Electronic Entertainment Expo (a.k.a. E3 2020) has been canceled due to fear surrounding COVID-19, which continues to spread across the world.

How things escalated: News first started to pick up steam earlier today when Devolver Digital tweeted that people should “cancel E3 flights and hotels.” Things continued to progress when reports from Ars Technica and journalist Mike Futter claimed to have sources that indicated the conference would be canceled. This cancellation comes as the city of Los Angeles declared a state of emergency linked to the Coronavirus on March 4th. An official announcement has been expected, but may not come until Wednesday.

Panic already hitting: Even before these announcements, a number of major developers and publishers have pulled out of the conference for reasons “unrelated” to COVID-19, such as PlayStation. As soon as last week, E3’s organizers (Entertainment Software Association) said that the conference was “full speed ahead,” despite the growing concern around the Coronavirus.

This marks the latest in delays and cancellations of major gaming events, such as the Game Developer’s Conference, the Mobile World Congress, and numerous other events.
