The LCS Spring finals featured the two top teams of the season duking it out for the winner’s title and trophy. Cloud9 needed to end its six-year championship drought, whereas FlyQuest wanted to bring home its organization’s first LCS trophy. In the end, Cloud9 ended up victorious, but their celebration was short-lived when they almost immediately broke the trophy.

The final match

FlyQuest did their best to put up a fight during their match against Clou9. But it was ultimately C9’s dominant playstyle they’ve shown throughout the split that ended up making them the triumphant team. C9 began celebrating immediately after FlyQuest’s Nexus fell in the third game. Viewers witnessed the team jumping around in joy, but then things took a turn for the worse.

A celebration breakdown

The team’s CEO, Jack Etienne, entered the room with the LCS trophy in-hand. He gave it to the squad to raise victoriously above their heads. In an ironic combination of a low ceiling and too-tall players, the team raised the trophy, struck the ceiling with it, and broke the trophy.

Nisqy was the only player who thought to grab a picture of the trophy before the accident occurred. So everyone else will need to wait a little longer to get their own pictures with the trophy now that it needs repairs.

For the moment, Cloud9 will be missing its trophy. But that doesn’t change the fact that they had an incredibly dominant season in the LCS with a 17-1 season record. Team fans are justifiably excited to see how they’ll do at MSI.

Let’s just hope that breaking trophies is not a new team curse.
